Vizza time.

All systems go

The inaugural entry for "Kimchi on the Brain".
It's about time.

18 Feb 2011.  8 am

     Recieved my Visa confirmation number.

18 Feb 2011.  9 am

Phoned the Chicago consulate as soon as they opened at 9 am.

Was promptly sent into a holding pattern with nobody but Beethoven to keep me   company.

18 Feb 2011.  9:30 am

Realized that it was in fact 30 minutes later, and that I was using a prepaid cellphone.

     Opted to leave a message.

18 Feb 2011.  1:30 pm

After several calls placed, I finally got ahold of an actual living person.

Appointment set for 11:00 am in Chicago.

22 Feb 2011.  11:00 am

Took the train from Milwaukee to Chicago to avoid the bad weather,  I've been staying with Matt LeMarbre in Waukesha.  Much thanks to the LeMarbres for their generous hospitality.

Interviewed at the Korean consulate in Chicago.  It was a joke.  They sat 6 of us down in a room together in a corner office overlooking the lake and Michigan ave,  (I think) and he asked us why we wanted to go to Korea,  and gave us 3 minutes each to answer, then kicked us out.  This after an hour or more of waiting in the lobby.  But I met a couple of cool cats from MN and WI.  Molly Z is from Madison.  Michael is from Rochester,  but his dad grew up in Menomonie.  Molly is living in my neighborhood in Seoul!  First friend.  And they say I can pick up my Visa after 3 on friday!

Don't know what why this gal was so happy.  She wasn't blind, just wearing this thing over her eyes when she didn't need to use her eyes.

22 Feb 2011.  3:30 pm

On the way home from Chicago,  This guy was sitting across from me, and I thought that he was unusually bold (at least by my conservative midwestern standards.)  But I guess it just Playboy after all.  And I think he was Italian,  so that makes it ok.

23 Feb 2011.

Did some work at the infamous "RIVPIT"

24 Feb 2011.  2:30 pm

Drove to Chicago and stayed with Lily Bevis and Nick Rumler again.  Much thanks again to them.  Had a couple Leffes and listened to a book-on-MP3 whilst waiting in the car for Lily to arrive home from work.

These photos pretty much sum up what state I was in when Lily found me.

25 Feb 2011.   9:00 am

Nick was nice enough to show me around his school.  He's doing good work, and seems to be making good use of his time there.  I don't know who made this staple kitten, but I briefly considered stealing it off the wall and taking it home with me.

24 Feb 2011.  12 noon- 9:00 pm

Stopped by the consulate three hours early to pick up my Visa.  Luck me!  it was done. Drove straight home to Menomonie.  I'll fly out on Sunday at 6 am.
